Sekolah Lentera Kasih Makassar Welcomes 21 Student Prefects for the 2026–2027 Academic Year

On 20 August 2026, Sekolah Lentera Kasih Makassar proudly welcomed 21 newly appointed student prefects during the Prefect Investiture 2026. Attended by school leaders, teachers, parents, and students from Grades 3 to 6, the ceremony marked the beginning of an important leadership journey for the selected students.

Representing Grades 3 through 6, the new prefects have been entrusted with supporting the school community and helping create an environment where every student feels safe, respected, responsible, and welcomed. Their appointment recognizes not only their potential as young leaders but also their willingness to serve others.

The Prefect Investiture is more than a formal ceremony. It represents the school's commitment to providing students with meaningful opportunities to develop leadership, responsibility, confidence, and a spirit of service from an early age.

As the 21 prefects begin their responsibilities for the 2026–2027 academic year, they carry with them an important message: leadership is not simply about holding a position—it is about becoming a positive example and making a meaningful contribution to the people around them.

An Inspiring Beginning to a New Leadership Journey

The ceremony began with a prayer, bringing the school community together in gratitude and reflection as the new prefects prepared to take an important step in their school journey. The atmosphere was filled with excitement and pride as students, teachers, and families gathered to celebrate the occasion.

A special performance of “This Is Me” was then presented by Yumi from Grade 5B, Rebecca from Grade 5A, and the backing vocal group. Their performance brought an inspiring energy to the ceremony and highlighted themes of courage, confidence, individuality, and believing in oneself.

The message of the performance connected closely with the journey the prefects were about to begin. Becoming a student leader requires confidence to step forward, courage to make responsible decisions, and a willingness to continue learning from every experience.

The performance also reminded everyone that leadership begins with understanding and accepting who we are. By recognising their own strengths while continuing to grow, students can become leaders who encourage and support those around them.

Leadership Begins with Character and Service

During the ceremony, Mr. Anton, Prefect Supervisor, delivered a presentation about the meaning and responsibilities of student leadership. The prefects were reminded that becoming a prefect is not simply about receiving a badge, gaining recognition, or holding a special title within the school.

Instead, leadership requires responsibility, consistency, character, and a genuine willingness to serve others. As shared during the ceremony, “Leadership does not begin with a badge. It begins with character, responsibility, and the willingness to serve.”

Throughout the academic year, the prefects will contribute to different areas of school life. Their responsibilities include welcoming students, supporting school routines and events, encouraging positive behaviour, assisting younger students, and helping maintain a safe and harmonious environment.

While prefects are encouraged to take initiative, they are also taught the importance of recognising when adult guidance is needed. They will work closely with teachers and school staff whenever situations require additional support, reinforcing the idea that good leadership also means knowing when to ask for help.

A Commitment to Kindness, Integrity, and Responsibility

One of the most meaningful moments of the ceremony was the official presentation of the prefect pins and report books. These items symbolise both the recognition given to the students and the responsibility that comes with their new role.

The prefects then participated in the Prefect Pledge and Signing, formally committing themselves to serving the school community according to the values of Kindness, Humility, Respect, Integrity, Discipline, and Resilience. These values will guide them as they carry out their responsibilities throughout the year.

The ceremony also featured speeches from Davi of Grade 6 and Alina of Grade 4A, representing the prefect body. Davi returns for another year of service as a prefect, bringing experience from his previous leadership journey, while Alina represents those beginning their prefect journey for the first time.

Their message reflected an important principle of student leadership: being a leader does not mean standing above others. Instead, leadership means being willing to listen, help, learn, cooperate, and become someone whom others can look to as a positive example.

Growing Young Leaders Through Meaningful Service

Through the prefect programme, Sekolah Lentera Kasih Makassar aims to provide students with authentic opportunities to practise leadership within their everyday school experiences. By taking responsibility and supporting others, prefects develop skills that extend far beyond the classroom.

Communication, teamwork, confidence, problem-solving, responsibility, and decision-making are among the important skills students can strengthen throughout their service. These experiences encourage students to understand that leadership grows through consistent actions rather than titles alone.

The ceremony concluded with a closing prayer followed by photographs with the school leadership, prefects, and their families. These moments of celebration marked not the end of the investiture, but the beginning of a new chapter for the 21 young leaders.

As the prefects begin their service for the 2026–2027 academic year, Sekolah Lentera Kasih Makassar hopes that they will carry their responsibilities with humility, courage, kindness, and dedication. Their journey serves as a reminder to the entire school community that true leadership is not about being above others—it is about standing with others, setting a positive example, and being willing to serve.

With God We Serve.
