On March 20–21, 2025, Sekolah Lentera Kasih Makassar held its annual Student-Led Conferences (SLC) — a special event where students stepped into the spotlight to share their learning journeys directly with their parents and teachers. Unlike traditional parent-teacher meetings, the SLC format gave students the opportunity to become presenters, taking full ownership of their academic progress and development.
Each student rotated through five subject stations, including core subjects like Math, English, and Science/Social Studies, as well as additional subjects such as Music, PE, ICT, Bahasa Indonesia, Mandarin, and Arts. At each station, students had five minutes to present their work, explain concepts, and answer questions. This format encouraged clarity, confidence, and strong communication skills.
In the Math station, some students confidently presented topics like the volume of solids and liquids using charts and visual aids. One student stood in front of a poster board, explaining how to calculate volume, while parents and teachers listened with enthusiasm. The clear articulation of mathematical thinking was a testament to how well students had internalized the concepts they were learning.

The Science station came alive with hands-on experiments. A student demonstrated a chemical reaction by inflating a balloon using a mixture in a plastic bottle, sparking curiosity and excitement among both the audience and his peers. These interactive presentations allowed students to blend theory with real-life applications, making the learning experience even more meaningful.

In the lower grades, students engaged in creative and tactile activities. A touching moment was captured as a young boy and his mother worked together on a fractions activity, assembling parts of a pizza made of paper to represent mathematical portions. This station reflected how foundational math skills can be taught through fun and collaborative experiences.

Digital literacy was also on full display. At one of the ICT stations, a student guided a visitor through an interactive listening activity using a laptop and headphones. These experiences showcased how technology is being meaningfully integrated into classroom learning at SLK Makassar.

Throughout the event, parents were invited not just to observe, but to participate. Teachers encouraged families to provide written feedback, ensuring that the partnership between home and school remained strong and supportive. The smiles, applause, and engaged conversations in every room confirmed that this approach to conferencing brings learning to life in a powerful way.
SLK Makassar’s Student-Led Conferences reflect the school’s commitment to developing students who are reflective, articulate, and responsible. By giving students a voice in their learning, the school nurtures confidence, independence, and a deeper connection to their educational journey.
